Bayern Munich vs VfB Stuttgart
Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich could be crowned Bundesliga champions this weekend if they beat third-placed VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena on Sunday.
12 points clear of Borussia Dortmund with just five games to play, it is as good as all over. And with Die Schwarzgelben away to TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday, Die Bayern will know exactly what they need to do when they face up to VfB.
Die Roten, managed by Sebastian Hoeness, are sure to better their ninth-place finish of last season, and they will not roll over. Last week, VfB beat Hamburg 4-0, while Bayern handed out a 5-0 hammering to St. Pauli before beating Real Madrid in a pulsating Champions League clash on Wednesday night.
The visitors have longer to prepare for this clash, and they too need the points as they currently sit just four points above Bayer Leverkusen in fifth. And that makes this a compelling contest, and one which will have the eyes of the world on it.
Talking Points
50 up for King Kane
Bayern’s Champions League tussle with Real Madrid was one of the most anticipated ties of Europe’s top competition and, boy, did it deliver. After winning 2-1 in Madrid, the Bavarians were in the box seat, but Los Blancos came roaring back, and it took late goals from Luis Diaz and Michael Olise to send Bayern through. They were helped by Eduardo Camavinga’s red card, but Kompany’s men were also set on their way by Harry Kane, who notched his 50th goal of the current campaign.
The English goal machine has been imperious again this season and is one of the main reasons the Bundesliga 2026 betting odds have been squarely behind FC Bayern all season. Borussia Dortmund have had a superb season too, but the Bavarians have simply been relentless, and their upcoming Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain promises to be a match to savour.
Bayern have the most feared attack in world football right now, spearheaded by Kane, and with Diaz and Olise helping him to wreak havoc. PSG will need to be well prepared, but for now, it is Stuttgart who need to find the answers.
VfB’s team ethic has paid dividends
Stuttgart’s Bundesliga 2026 results have been hugely impressive and consistent throughout the campaign, while the strikers have often grabbed the headlines, Hoeness has harnessed a battling spirit in his whole team, from back to front.
Stuttgart’s recent clash with Borussia Dortmund was a hugely frustrating affair for Die Roten as they dominated for long periods, with 67-per cent possession and 13 shots to five, but they were undone by two goals deep into stoppage time. To keep BVB quiet for 94 minutes was some achievement, and the defencive pair of Ramon Hendriks and Jeff Chabot will need to be at their best to repel the Bavarian onslaught on Sunday.

The team’s collective defencive work has been a strength of the team, as Chabot explains: “One of our priorities is to keep a clean sheet in as many games as possible. If we manage that, then it increases our chances of winning. We have a lot of players who are good in their duels, and we push each other.”
At the other end of the pitch, Deniz Undav remains the best striker, as his 18 league goals have propelled him to second place in the top scorers list, sandwiched between Kane and Diaz. Alongside Undav, Bosnian striker Ermedin Demirovic is a handful, and Germany midfielder Angelo Stiller scored the opener in Stuttgart’s destruction of Hamburg last week.
VfB are currently third in the Bundesliga table, and they need all their players to be firing to get them over the line. Team spirit and character are also not issues Hoeness needs to worry about.
History
Over the past 49 meetings, Bayern have won 36 to Stuttgart’s seven, and there have been six draws. At the Allianz Arena in Munich, the tally stands at 17 wins to three and three draws.
In fact, the Bavarians have won the last seven encounters between these two clubs, scoring 22 goals and conceding four, and they have been brutal over the past 12 months, winning 4-0 at home in the league last season while handing out a 5-0 thrashing in Stuttgart just three months ago.
And in terms of recent form, Bayern have won their last six games, while Stuttgart have won three and lost three in all competitions.
Betting Tip
Stuttgart are at SBOTOP odds of 6.45 to win this clash with the draw at 5.55, with Bayern heavily odds on at 1.39, and it’s hard to see anything other than the Bundesliga trophy being held aloft by Kane and Co on Sunday night.
But VfB is one of the toughest opponents Bayern could meet at this stage, and they will make their hosts work hard for a win. And for a long shot alternative, how about a 3-3 draw at odds of 25.00?
