Coppa Italia: Atalanta and Lazio Plan to Book Their Tickets to Rome

Atalanta vs Lazio

After a 2-2 draw in the opening leg, Atalanta and Lazio will conclude their Coppa Italia semi-final on Wednesday, when these two Serie A teams meet in the New Balance Arena at Bergamo. The winner of this tie will meet the winner between Inter Milan and Como in the final.

A lot has happened between these two teams since the first leg last month. For Atalanta, they soon suffered a humbling exit from the Champions League Round of 16 at the hands of Bayern Munich, and they’re seventh in the Italian top-flight table with 54 points after a mixed bag of results. As for Lazio, they’re undefeated in four of their last six league games (D1, L1), improving to ninth place with 47 points.

The Coppa Italia is Atalanta and Lazio’s last chance of winning silverware this season, so expect these two calcios to go all-out this midweek.

Talking Points

Atalanta’s Carnesecchi could work double time

Atalanta are coming off a 1-1 draw against AS Roma, as they squandered an early one-goal lead. Nikola Krstovic opened the scoring in the 12th minute, but Mario Hermoso replied for the Giallorossi right before halftime.

Marco Carnesecchi was La Dea’s Man of the Match last weekend. The 25-year-old goalkeeper had eight saves, including seven inside the penalty area, four throws, two high claims, and nine recoveries. He also touched the ball 61 times to help build up Atalanta’s forays.

With Giorgio Scalvini and Sead Kolasinac listed as questionable to play against Lazio due to the knocks they sustained against AS Roma, Carnesecchi could be in for a long night on Wednesday if Honest Ahanor and Odilon Kossounou take their places in the back three with Berat Djimsiti.

But overall, Atalanta should have a bigger squad this midweek, as Isak Hien and Kamaldeen Sulemana are back from injury, although both could come off the bench. Meanwhile, head coach Raffaele Palladino will likely choose between Nikola Krstovic and Gianluca Scamacca to spearhead their attack, with the former being favoured as the latter did not even play last time out.

Lazio receive lineup boosts

Lazio will fancy their chances against Atalanta, as Maurizio Sarri’s side has a healthier squad ahead of Wednesday. Mario Gila and Daniel Maldini returned to the squad during their 2-0 win against Napoli, with the former bolstering their defence and the latter not yet fully fit. La Dea will remain without Adam Marusic, Nicolo Rovella, Ivan Provedel, and Alessio Furlanetto.

The Biancolesti shocked Napoli, ending the latter’s long league unbeaten streak in Naples. Matteo Cancellieri and Toma Basic supplied the goals, with the former being the team’s standout player. Besides opening the scoring, Cancellieri completed 14 (out of 19) accurate passes, 13 defencive contributions, and won five of his 12 duels (ground and air).

History

Atalanta and Lazio shared the spoils in a 2-2 stalemate in the opening leg at Stadio Olimpico last month, as Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Boulaye Dia scored for the Biancocelesti, and Mario Pasalic and Yunus Musah scored for La Dea.

Atalanta have reached the Coppa Italia three times in the past seven years, but they’ve never won on each occasion. Domestic glory has been elusive for La Dea, as their lone cup triumph dates back to 1963, but they’ve been successful in Europe recently, having won the Europa League in 2023-24.

Lazio are seven-time winners of the Coppa Italia, having most recently beaten none other than Atalanta to the trophy seven years ago. Because they’re at risk of missing out on Europe for a second consecutive year, the Biancocelesti’s best route back into UEFA competition would be winning this year’s cup.

Betting Tip

The Coppa Italia 2026 odds have Atalanta surviving this semi-final tie on Wednesday, with the help of their home crowd. La Dea are 1.74 favourites, while the Biancocelesti are huge 4.02 underdogs, and a draw after 90 minutes is priced at 3.36 in the 1X2 market.

Football fans can expect more Coppa Italia 2026 highlights from these two sides. Besides rooting for Atalanta to win, SBOTOP bettors can also add Over 2.25 at 1.60, Over 2.50 at 1.86, Over 2.75 at 2.13, and even Total Goal 4-6 at 3.24 to the parlay, with Total Goal 2-3 at 1.99 being the safer alternative.

Furthermore, a Correct Score of 2-2 – the result of the first leg, which would send this tie to penalties – has a staggering offer of 16.50 your bet. Interestingly, any final result favouring Lazio is on offer for at least 6.70 your bet.
